Site Managers will work closely with City-wide Project staff and other Site Managers to ensure the ISC model is implemented and program outcomes are achieved. S/he will be charged with amplifying outreach to LGBT older adults in the site’s borough to build attendance at Center events, identifying specific community needs and collaborating to develop appropriately tailored interventions, and ensure targets for program delivery are met. Site Managers will oversee compliance with agency policies and government regulations. S/he must supervise ISC data collection and uphold reporting procedures of the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA).

Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is the country’s largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is a national organization that offers supportive services and consumer resources for LGBT older adults and their caregivers, advocates for public policy changes that address the needs of LGBT older people, and provides cultural competency training for aging providers and LGBT organizations, largely through its National Resource Center on LGBT Aging and its growing social entrepreneurship project. With offices in New York City, Washington, DC and Chicago, SAGE coordinates a growing network of 27 SAGE affiliates in 20 states and the District of Columbia.

SAGE was recently awarded funding by the New York City Council to expand its Innovative Senior Center model for LGBT older adults to four additional sites: Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Harlem.The program’s theory of change is based on a whole-person wellness model and seeks to provide specific interventions targeted to the improving outcomes in each of the domains of wellness based on the needs of the specific communities and/or individuals involved. Under this Project, each new site must implement the model and meet specific contract deliverables as defined by the Department for the Aging. SAGE is now recruiting two (2) Site Managers for this Project. These positions report to the Director of SAGE Centers. The position is full-time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, direct, and supervise daily operations, including food service, and staff at site;
  • Deliver programs that enhance the wellness of LGBT older adults;
  • Coordinate service provision at site with SAGE ISCs’ Health & Wellness Manager, Life-Long Learning Manager, other program staff, consultants and volunteers;
  • Manage programmatic interventions by staff, consultants and volunteers;
  • Engage in borough-wide outreach to LGBT constituencies to build audiences and ensure program delivery targets are met;
  • Supervise data collection and tracking procedures, and monitor deliverables;
  • Work with Assistant Center Director, supervise program administrative procedures and contract reporting;
  • Work with Assistant Center Director to ensure full compliance with State, County, Agency and DFTA regulations and standards;
  • Assess site staff development needs and ensure professional development plans are developed and implemented;
  • Attend conferences and in-services training sessions that contribute to professional enrichment of staff and innovative programming;
  • Collaborate with SAGE Marketing and Media Relations Department on development of promotional material derived from activities at ISC; and
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the SAGE Center Director.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, public administration or related field plus a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a nonprofit setting including supervisory experience. Substantial work experience (5+) in nonprofit program delivery, development and management, especially in the aging or LGBT fields, may be substituted for master’s degree;
  • Passion for working with people from diverse backgrounds, and cultural and linguistic competency in regards to age, ability, sexuality, gender identity and expression, race, ethnicity, class and other characteristics that affect the lives of diverse older adults;
  • Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize activities and meet deliverables under deadlines;
  • Capacity and a desire to gain new skills and knowledge to drive innovative programming;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to identify and integrate the perspectives and needs of diverse constituents;
  • Flexible and dependable – this position requires some flexibility around scheduling; some evening hours required;
  • Computer proficient, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Fluency (verbal and written) in Spanish required for one of the two positions; and
  • A commitment to the issues, constituency and values of SAGE.

Strongly Desired Qualifications

  • Substantive knowledge of and/or prior work experience in the aging or LGBT fields, including working knowledge of history and issues facing more marginalized older adults;
  • Prior experience providing services and programs for older adults;
  • Working knowledge of NYC DFTA regulations and guidelines;
  • Knowledge of budget and financial management in the not-for-profit field; and
  • Understanding of performance measurement and management, and/or a strong desire to implement metrics to evaluate the impact and the effectiveness of programming.
