RIO GAY FILM FESTIVAL 2015 – All genres and sexualities reaches the fifth edition with 120 films

2 to July 12, the Rio de Janeiro will be the world capital of gender and sexuality cinema. Featuring works from over 30 countries as well as international guests, Rio Gay Film Festival 2015 – All genres and sexualities reaches the fifth edition with the main exhibition space Cine Odeon – Cultural Center Luiz Severiano Ribeiro, in Cinelandia. In this edition, the Festival expands its exhibition spaces – beyond the Cine Odeon, the Library Culture, Cine Joia and the Cine Art UFF enter the festival circuit. Between long and short films, will be more than 120 productions (27 long and 95 short), which distributed on schedule, they will address the genders and sexualities for different views.

The International Panorama program will receive 18 new films – among them the documentary Game Face (Belgium and USA), director Michiel Thomas, and the B-movie science fiction and horror Dyke Hard, the Swedish Bitte Andersson. Both filmmakers will come to Brazil to present their films. Also in Panorama, highlighting the new movie Bruce La Bruce, Pierrot Lunaire; the first production in the theme of Sri Lanka, Frangipani; and the delicate Atlantida, directed by Argentine Ines Maria Barrionuevo.

Already the National Panorama will present nine films, mostly documentaries. Gazelle – The Love Issue, Cesar Terranova, will be the opening film, July 2, at Cine Odeon. The closing session, July 11, will feature Chestnut, David Pretto. At the time there will be the show of Maria Helena Chestnut, the movie character Chestnut. The writer Caio Fernando Abreu and Leonilson artist are portrayed, respectively, documentaries Forever Your Caio F. (Candé Salles) and JL Passion (Carlos Nader). The directors and actors of all domestic feature films will be present at the Festival.

The other titles will be divided between the National Competition of Short (11 short), the International Short Competition (27 short), the National Short Show (12 short), the Transcinema (14 short) and the DIV.A – Diversity in Animation (31 short). There will also be discussions with the filmmakers, seminar, show and the Young Panorama program.

“The national cinema of gender and sexuality is renewing and winning unprecedented levels. Several filmmakers are being rewarded and his films screened at major international film festivals. The glare of these domestic products is reflected in curating this year’s festival,” said Alexander Mello, director and festival curator.

The festival circuit covers the center of Rio de Janeiro (Cine Odeon – Luiz Severiano Ribeiro Cultural Center, Cultural Center of the Federal Court and Library Culture), the South Zone (Cervantes Institute in Botafogo and the Cine Joia in Copacabana), Zone North (Arena Carioca Jovelina Black Pearl in Pavuna, and Arena Carioca Dicro in Penha Circular) and Niterói (Cine Art UFF).

RIO FESTIVAL GAY DE CINEMA 2015 – Todos os Gêneros e Sexualidades chega à quinta edição com 120 filmes

De 2 a 12 de julho, o Rio de Janeiro será a capital mundial do cinema de gênero e sexualidade. Contando com obras de mais de 30 países, além de convidados internacionais, o Rio Festival Gay de Cinema 2015 – Todos os Gêneros e Sexualidades chega à quinta edição tendo como principal espaço de exibição o Cine Odeon – Centro Cultural Luiz Severiano Ribeiro, na Cinelândia. Nesta edição, o Festival amplia os seus espaços de exibição – além do Cine Odeon, a Livraria Cultura, o Cine Joia e o Cine Arte UFF entram no circuito do festival. Entre longas e curtas-metragens, serão mais de 120 produções (27 longas e 95 curtas) que, distribuídas na programação, vão abordar os gêneros e sexualidades por diferentes pontos de vista.

O programa Panorama Internacional vai receber 18 filmes inéditos – entre eles o documentário Game Face (Bélgica e EUA), do diretor Michiel Thomas, e o filme B de ficção científica e horror Dyke Hard, da sueca Bitte Andersson. Ambos os cineastas virão ao Brasil para apresentar seus filmes. Ainda neste Panorama, destaque para o novo filme de Bruce La Bruce, Pierrot Lunaire; a primeira produção na temática do Sri Lanka, Frangipani; e o delicado Atlantida, dirigido pela argentina Ines María Barrionuevo.

Já o Panorama Nacional vai apresentar nove filmes, na sua maioria documentários. Gazelle – The Love Issue, de Cesar Terranova, será o filme de abertura, dia 2 de julho, no Cine Odeon. A sessão de encerramento, dia 11 de julho, contará com Castanha, de Davi Pretto. Na ocasião haverá o show da Maria Helena Castanha, a personagem do filme Castanha. O escritor Caio Fernando Abreu e o artista plástico Leonilson são retratados, respectivamente, nos documentários Para Sempre Teu Caio F. (Candé Salles) e A Paixão de JL (Carlos Nader). Os diretores e atores de todos os longas-metragens nacionais estarão presentes no Festival.

Os demais títulos vão se dividir entre a Competição Nacional de Curta (11 curtas), a Competição Internacional de Curta (27 curtas), a Mostra Nacional de Curta (12 curtas), o Transcinema (14 curtas) e o DIV.A – Diversidade em Animação (31 curtas). Haverá também debates com os realizadores, seminário, show e o programa Panorama Jovem.

“O cinema nacional de gênero e sexualidade está se renovando e conquistando níveis inéditos. Diversos cineastas estão sendo premiados e seus filmes exibidos em grandes festivais internacionais de cinema. O brilho intenso dessas produções nacionais se reflete na curadoria desta edição do festival”, afirma Alexander Mello, diretor e curador do festival.

O circuito do festival abrange o Centro do Rio de Janeiro (Cine Odeon – Centro Cultural Luiz Severiano Ribeiro, Centro Cultural da Justiça Federal e Livraria Cultura), a Zona Sul (Instituto Cervantes, em Botafogo e o Cine Joia em Copacabana), a Zona Norte (Arena Carioca Jovelina Pérola Negra, na Pavuna, e Arena Carioca Dicró, na Penha Circular) e Niterói (Cine Arte UFF).
