Major Gifts Officer National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

Location: New York, NY

Purpose

The Major Gifts Officer position is mainly responsible for cultivating and soliciting major donors ($1,500 and above) to the organization in assigned regions across the country. The position also provides assistance to various major donor events held by the organization and assists with supporting fundraising conducted by senior staff and the organization’s Board of Directors. The Major Gifts Officer position is currently located in New York and reports to the Director of Individual Giving.

Responsibilities

Major Gifts Program Management

  • Develop a strategic plan to achieve or exceed major gifts revenue goals;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with an aggressive of 200+ major donors and prospects;
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit major donors, within the $1,500 – $10,000 range;
  • Successfully complete stewardship and solicitation meetings (in-person or telephone) each month;
  • Coordinate meet-and-greet, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship visits for agency leadership, program staff, and board members;
  • Manage periodic major donor renewal cycle, including drafting communications, engaging Board and staff solicitors, and tracking revenue;
  • Participate in major donor fundraising events and major donor components of special events
  • Ensure timely and accurate response to donors concerns, requests and gifts while practicing and facilitating good customer service;
  • Strengthen agency’s development strategies and best practices through professional learning and monitoring of giving trends and macro data.

Board of Directors Fundraising and Prospect Management

  • Provide staff support to the organization’s Board of Directors involved in major donor solicitations and cultivation events, including helping Board members identify, cultivate, and solicit gifts from potential major donors from their contacts;
  • Build agency’s donor knowledgebase by researching and analyzing individual donors and prospects in order to develop strategies for gift growth and acquisition;
  • Manage and track Board progress to their fundraising goals.

Qualifications:

  • Success at meeting or succeeding fundraising goals;
  • A minimum of (2) years’ experience in major gifts solicitation and proven track record in soliciting gifts of $5,000 or higher;
  • Knowledge and experience in prospect research;
  • Ability to be both engaging and professional with major donors and prospects;
  • Exceptional writing skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail;
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus;
  • College degree or equivalent experience.

Supervisor:

The Major Gifts Officer will report to the Director of Individual Giving

Compensation:

Commensurate with experience. Provides excellent benefits — health, dental and vision insurance; annual and sick leave; 403(b) plan with employer contributions.
This position is part of our collective bargaining unit.
