And the EastEnders star reckons he is going to have to try extra hard because he is starting his training sessions later than his fellow celebrities because of filming commitments on the soap.

“I am going to have so much to catch up on as I am going to have to cram it all in,” he explains. “It’s going to be so nerve-wracking and I really am bricking myself! I am really worried about falling over – especially on the live show. I don’t want to be falling over in front of millions and I know I have just got to get on with it.

“It’s petrifying when you hear the music too. You really do get the butterflies. The butterflies are one thing I am not looking forward to and when they are going round and round every week, you really do wonder what on earth you have done!”

He thinks even stepping back on the ice is a challenge in itself. “I haven’t done any skating since I last took part and it is important to get that confidence again to do the stuff that you did before,” explains Gary.

“The competition is so high this time. You just have to go out and do it rather than starting out again. But it is good to get stuck back in and I really want to give it a great go.”
