Position Description The Events Manager (EM) is one of the key positions on a eight-person development team. The EM is responsible for producing and leveraging more than 20 special events annually that will help GLAD meet its development/fundraising goals, cultivate new and prospective donors, and recognize and steward current donors. In addition to event conception, planning, execution, and follow-up, awareness of strategic donor relations strategies is also important. Events include but are not limited to dinners, auctions, receptions, briefings, and house parties.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have three or more years of nonprofit fundraising event experience, demonstrated success in producing an annual calendar of multiple events and experience with event budget planning and maintenance. The ability to articulate GLAD’s strategic priorities and build strong relationships, take initiative, manage multiple projects and priorities, coordinate with others, and follow through in a dynamic environment is a must. Awareness and sensitivity to the needs and wants of donors and other stakeholders are required. Experience recruiting and working with interns, volunteers, and committee members is important. Familiarity with the LGBT and HIV positive communities is helpful as well as experience with Raisers Edge or other fundraising databases. Excellent written and oral communications skills are necessary. Some travel required.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee planning and provide hands-on work with major special events (two with combined revenue of $800,000; one event with more than 500 attendees and another hotel dinner with close to 1,000) and all other special events and fundraising activities. This work requires venue planning and logistics; management of design, printing and mailing of invitations and program materials; cultivation of corporate and individual sponsors and table captains; recruitment, coordination, and support of volunteer committees, etc.
  • Work closely with other staff on the strategic planning of and provide support for regional events in New England and beyond.
  • Collaborate with Database Manager regarding list requests, data maintenance, and post-event data analyses.
  • Oversee, guide, and direct a special events assistant.
  • Recruit and train interns and volunteers to assist with special event planning.
  • Establish a strategic mix of cultivation, fundraising and donor recognition programs.
  • Create, manage, and maintain expense budgets for all events and strategies for meeting revenue goals for fundraising events.
  • Participate in defining and carrying out development objectives and priorities for entire organization.
  • Other Development and institutional duties as needed.

Report to: Assistant Director of Development

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits include health, dental and long-term disability insurance; 401(k) with employer contribution; three weeks’ vacation; and supportive and friendly work environment dedicated to groundbreaking achievement for the LGBT and HIV communities.
