Responsible for ensuring that GLSEN continues to provide high quality educational resources and programs that increase the willingness and ability of K-12 educators to create and sustain safe, respectful and healthful school environments for all students, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. This position resides in GLSEN’s Education and Youth Programs Department and will primarily focus on growing GLSEN’s engagement with and support of K-12 educators.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Management
    • Guide the development and distribution of GLSEN’s LGBT-inclusive curricular and educator resources, including lesson plans, guides, videos and webinars
    • Manage day-today operations of GLSEN’s capacity building programs for GLSEN Chapters, districts and partners
  • Content Development
    • Create LGBT-inclusive curricular materials in priority content areas, including Social Studies/History, English/Language Arts, Health, P.E. and STEM
    • Create resource guides for K-12 educators on key topics, themes and best practices
    • Increase GLSEN’s suite of interactive online resources for educators and Chapters
  • Author blog posts, journal articles and other educational content for a variety of publications
  • Education and Youth Programs Department
    • Support additional department projects and programs, as needed
  • Constituent Engagement
    • Lead GLSEN’s online engagement efforts with K-12 educators, particularly via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
    • Support local GLSEN Chapters in implementing educator programming
    • Identify and engage national partner organizations and experts to increase the depth, breadth and impact of GLSEN educator resources
    • Represent GLSEN at national conferences and events
    • Provide technical assistance to educators in the field

Required Skills:

  • M.A. (a degree in Education preferred) and at least three to five years of direct experience working in education (teaching experience preferred)
  • Experience creating lesson plans, curriculum and/or educational resources
  • Facilitation/training experience a plus
  • Successful experience with project management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse groups
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the U.S. education system, LGBT issues in schools and intersectionality of identities
  • Commitment to social justice
  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistency in follow-up
  • Working knowledge of social media, website CMS and constituent database software
  • Willingness to travel several times per year
  • This position will be located in GLSEN’s New York City headquarters.
