LGBTQ Allyship is a nonprofit located in the Central Area serving over 2900 constituents by advocating for LGBTQ economic equity, housing, reducing youth homelessness and access to democracy justice in Seattle and South King County. We build community power through leadership development, advocacy, and community organizing. Allyship leads the LGBTQ Social Justice Leadership Institute to build LGBTQ grassroots leaders in south Seattle and South King County.

Our mission: LGBTQ Allyship builds power among LGBTQ communities and allies in Washington State to work towards economic, racial, and gender justice. We do this through community organizing, education, advocacy, and developing grassroots leadership in solidarity with other marginalized communities.

LGBTQ Allyship Organizing Director

Job Description: The Organizing Director will achieve the goals of our Justice Works program through grassroots worker organizing, cultural events, community trainings and individual worker support. The Organizing Director will be responsible for organizing in specific industries of workers ie. restaurant, retail, hospitality. The Organizing Director will also assist with Allyship’s housing justice work in South King County and our LGBTQ low-income senior housing advocacy. The Organizing Director will have experience working in grassroots nonprofits with a flexible, value-driven, problem-solving, radical welcoming, inclusive mode of operation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Organize logistics of Justice Works program
  • Identify, recruit and build leadership for Talk Gender to Me Campaign (gender neutral campaign in the restaurant industry)
  • Coordinate Allyship’s Transcend project
  • Maintain database (Little Green Light) and maintain updates.
  • Coordinate and strengthen communications and social media, including website, email accounts, Facebook, Twitter, list-serv newsletter, flyers etc.
  • Measure and track program deliverables
  • Identify, recruit and build advocates to share their stories around housing and economic challenges and their resiliency to solutions to city, county and state elected officials.
  • Support fundraising programs, including individual donors, events, sustainers and grants.
  • Assist Executive Director in accomplishing program deliverables around LGBTQ housing equity
  • Other administrative and program tasks/duties

This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Job Qualifications:

  • Familiar with organizing in LGBTQ communities
  • Commitment to anti-oppression principles
  • At least 2 years’ experience working for an advocacy or community-based non-profit
  • Experience with leadership development in marginalized communities
  • Experience organizing marginalized workers and renters
  • Experience in event planning
  • Familiarity with coordinating databases (Little Green Light)
  • Community outreach experience
  • Experience with leading a project and achieving deliverables
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communicator to community and among staff
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to track multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent writing and oral skills
  • Familiar with WordPress, document sharing and collaboration tools such as Google drive, presentation tools such as Powerpoint or Prezi, online newsletter and action alert tools such as Constant Contact, online survey tools like Google Form and graphic design tools such as Cava
  • Experience using social media as an organizing tool
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgement, self-motivated and ability to motivate others
  • Excellent facilitating skills
  • Self-starter
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience coordinating with government agencies, community organizations and staff
  • Responsible, accountable and able to demonstrate attention to detail

Requirements:

  • Has own laptop
  • Experience as a Community Organizer
  • Two years’ experience working for an advocacy or community-based non-profit
  • Familiarity with queer, trans, gender non-binary, low-income, people of color, homeless youth and immigrant communities, cultures and organizations.
  • Believes in gender, racial and economic justice.
  • Willingness to work from home
  • Has own car
  • Able to start immediately
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends

Compensation and start date: Salary range from $43,000 to $45,900 depending on experience. Exciting benefit package comes with health stipend, retirement benefits, generous paid vacation, paid sick and safe time and Personal Time Off benefits. It begins at the end of April, 2018.
