What’s a night between friends?

by Chris Bridges | 29th June 2014

At Guy’s London flat, old friends and new gather to party through the night. This is the summer of 1985, and for Guy and his circle the world is about to change forever. Deliciously funny and bittersweet, Kevin Elyot’s comedy captures the fragility of friendship, happiness and life itself.

On its premiere, My Night With Reg defined a moment in the lives of gay men and became an instant classic. Winning Evening Standard and Olivier awards, this classic play is ripe for this twentieth anniversary revival. The comedy is set in London’s gay community in the summer of 1985 against the backdrop of the mounting AIDS crisis.

Sadly, writer Kevin Elyot recently died and this new production at The Donmar looks set to be a fitting tribute to his genius. Directed by acclaimed director Robert Hastie and featuring Matt Bardock, Jonathan Broadbent, Richard Cant, Julian Ovenden, Lewis Reeves and Geoffrey Streatfeild in the case, this production will be essential viewing in the summer theatre line-up.
