3098567 240x300 Suspect Confesses to Austin Hook Up MurderMatt Bacon, 24, admitted to the brutal murder of David Villarreal, 36. According to the arrest affidavit, Bacon met Villarreal at Austin’s Rain Nightclub. The two went back to his apartment in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 13.

While Villarreal was in the restroom, Bacon said he found a hammer underneath the kitchen sink. He hid it under the couch and waited for Villarreal to return. When he did, Bacon says he hit him in the head several times with the hammer. Then, he found a knife and cut his throat to “finish him off.”

According to the affidavit, Bacon stole Villarreal’s iPhone, iPad, Kindle, and XBOX before he left. He sold them at a nearby hotel before fleeing to Louisiana. On July 15, police arrested Bacon in West Monroe, Louisiana on a drug possession charge.

It’s a terrible story, with a slightly less terrible ending. Villarreal’s father told Austin’s KVUE news the confession is the closure he needed.

Villarreal, by the way, did have ties to Dallas. He attended both University of North Texas and University of Texas – Dallas, according to his Facebook profile.
