Social Enterprise Program Manager

Position Title: Social Enterprise Program Manager

Reports to: Manager of Programs

Supervises: Volunteers and Job Training Program participants

Classification: Regular Full-Time, Non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the Program Manager, this full-time position is responsible for developing and running our Social Enterprise program. Major duties include managing AHA Café, located on campus at UC Hastings College of Law. Expanding sales channels such as boxed lunch catering and special events. Developing and implementing a business plan to expand to additional locations. Work with executive team to develop funding proposals.

Toward this vision, we prevent homelessness for the LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS communities by protecting the housing we already have, providing resources to secure new housing, and promoting public policy to increase opportunity for all.

ORGANIZATION PROFILE: Founded in 2004 by two disabled gay men with AIDS, AIDS Housing Alliance/SF has been at the forefront advocating for the housing needs of the LGBTQ and HIV communities for over a decade. Our accomplishments include initiating the first LGBTQ focused adult homeless shelter, creating the first permanent rental subsidy program targeting chronically homeless members of the LGBTQ communities, successfully advocating to make 110 units of LGBT-friendly senior housing permanently affordable, passing local legislation to curb displacement and homelessness, and working collaboratively to achieve gains for the spectrum of homelessness services in the annual City budget process. We are proud that a majority of our staff is HIV+, most of who are disabled.

PROGRAMS SUMMARY

Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing : housing case management, affordable housing application assistance, tenant’s rights counseling & landlord mediation.

Financial Services : back rent to prevent eviction, move in deposits to cure homelessness, emergency hotel vouchers, short-term and needs-based rental subsidies.

Job Training & Supportive Employment : AHA Café is our job training and supportive employment site located on campus at UC Hastings College of Law.

Public Policy Advocacy : Imagine and successfully advocate achieving public policy that removes barriers to housing for all people.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Develop the Job Training and Supportive Employment program, including policies, procedures and standards.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the AHA Café.
  • Generate monthly reports of program progress.
  • Responsible for all cash procedures, receipts and deposits.
  • Responsible for timely and efficient fulfillment of merchandise purchases.
  • Volunteer coordination for special events for organization.

Business Development

  • Identify opportunities to expand our café operations at other sites.
  • Research and develop merchandising and catering opportunities and relationships.
  • Collaborate with executive team to generate corporate and foundation support.
  • Participate in the development of a business plan to support program expansion.

Coaching and Training

  • Train and supervise staff and job training participants.
  • Provide on-going counseling and referrals to support program participant success.
  • Coordinate with Housing Advocates on member’s training progress.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years of experience training, supervision and management.
  • Experience in restaurant, food business or kitchen.
  • Degree in business, social work, health, counseling, or other related field.
  • Commensurate professional experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • English language proficiency required; Bilingual/Spanish a plus.
  • Proficient computer and office skills, familiarity with Mac, database, and MS Office a plus.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated commitment to activist principles to achieve social change.
  • Knowledgeable of San Francisco-specific services, including housing & homeless resources, HIV/AIDS, disability, substance use, mental health and LGBT services.
