The 9th Annual Transgender Day Of Remembrance (TDOR) will be held today, 20th November 2013, to remember trans people who have lost their lives through violence and bullying.

Events will be happening around the globe today to remember transgender people who have lost their lives through violence and bullying.
It was revealed by the Trans Respect Monitoring Project that 238 trans people had been murdered around the world in the last year, however trans activists and campaigners have warned that the actual figures may be much higher as many crimes against transgender people go unreported.
TDOR first started in 1998, after the murder of Rita Hester. Since then the group has grown into a strong community with around 165,000 friends on Facebook.
This year the Daily Mail came under intense criticism of the way it dealt with the story of Lucy Meadows who committed suicide after she was monstered by the British Press.
A large vigil took place outside the Daily Mail offices and a petition with over 211,000 names on it called for the resignation or termination of Richard Littlejohn’s contract with the DM, after he wrote a damning column on Miss Meadows.
The Vigil which was dubbed a ‘vigil against monstering’ was aimed at the Daily Mail and its columnist Richard Littlejohn, who prompted an angry outburst after the emergence of an article entitled ‘He’s not only in the wrong body… he’s in the wrong job’.
An event is to take place this evening at the University of London Union in Bloomsbury at 7.00PM where an address will be given by broadcaster and journalist Paris Lees.
