A big announcement Tuesday from Major League Baseball (MLB): gay players are welcome. Anti-gay discrimination will not be tolerated.

MLB, along with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), said Tuesday it will implement a new code of conduct. It will be sent to all the teams, and posted in all of the locker rooms. The goal: to protect current and future players from discrimination and harassment. MLB will also offer new training for team officials and make it easier to report complaints.

“We welcome all individuals regardless of sexual orientation into our ballparks, along with those of different races, religions, genders and national origins. Both on the field and away from it, Major League Baseball has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation,” said MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, in a statement.

Shortly after the announcement, Athlete Ally sent out a statement, applauding the new code of conduct.

“Major League Baseball has stood out over the last half century for its leadership around diversity and inclusion. I applaud MLB’s continued commitment to making baseball safe and accessible for all. With the addition of this code of conduct, it is clear that sexual orientation will not be a barrier for athletes to play the game they love,” said ‪Hudson Taylor, Athlete Ally’s executive director.
