Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) is seeking a full-time HIV/STD Outreach and Testing Specialist to be based at The Center at Bay Shore. The HIV/STD Outreach and Testing Specialist will conduct HIV/STD testing at all of The Network’s Centers, and at community events. The Outreach & Testing Specialist will also be responsible for outreach efforts to expand the HIV Prevention Program, which works to change negative social norms in order to ultimately stop the spread of HIV. This program serves young and adult gay and bisexual men, with targeted efforts to serve young gay and bisexual men of color, ages 13-24. The HIV/STD Program Manager supervises the HIV/STD Outreach and Testing Specialist.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The HIV/STD Outreach and Testing Specialist serves three main roles:

Delivering HIV/STD Counseling, Testing, and Referral Services

  • Act as the lead HIV/STD tester among a team of trained testers
  • Provide HIV Rapid Testing as well as confirmatory testing when appropriate
  • Deliver Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR) services
  • Conduct STD screenings, including blood draw, finger prick, and urine specimen collection for Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Hepatitis C.
  • Ensure all testing and related services are implemented with fidelity and that procedures are in line with program protocols

Conducting diverse methods of outreach and education

  • Lead the planning and implementation of outreach and testing events within the organization and at community venues including bars, clubs, health fairs, and commercial sex venues
  • Deliver community outreach education workshops at schools and community settings
  • Coordinate and implement Evidence Based Interventions as an initiative to engage young gay and bisexual men of color
  • Identify new opportunities for outreach to, and engagement of, gay and bisexual men with the goal of increasing visibility and engaging new constituents

Assist with HIV Prevention program monitoring and evaluation

  • Collect contact information for all individuals engaged during outreach efforts
  • Perform data entry of statistics and demographic information as needed
  • Take inventory of all testing supplies and order materials when needed
  • Ensure all logs such as storage room HIV testing kits and HIV testing controls are up-to-date
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervisions, trainings, and conferences
  • Perform other related tasks and duties, as assigned

Qualification Requirements

  • Master’s degree in human services, social work, public health or other related field preferred, or equivalent work experience;
  • Experience working with LGBT individuals and/or individuals in high-risk HIV transmission categories;
  • Commitment to and knowledge of the LGBT community;
  • Certified in HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral (CTR);
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish;
  • Phlebotomy Training Preferred

Other Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule, as this position requires working nights and weekends;
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with the AIDS Institute Reporting System (AIRS);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver license as this position will require travel throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people and flexibility;
  • Strong organizational skills for handling multiple tasks at once.

Salary and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience; Four weeks of Paid Time Off, plus 13 paid holidays and excellent benefit package.
