Greg Abbott, who is running to replace Rick Perry as Texas Governor, doesn’t like gay people. Now, he’s worried about his ability to discriminate against them. Monday, the Dallas Morning News reported on Abbott’s opposition to adding sexual orientation and gender identity to San Antonio’s non-discrimination policy. The city council is set to vote on the ordinance next week.

Abbott is concerned that the ordinance would restrict religious freedoms.

“Religious expression is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and this ordinance is also contrary to the clearly expressed will of the Texas Legislature,” Abbott said, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Abbott is referring to the 2005, voter-approved, constitutional amendment, defining marriage as between one man and one woman in Texas.

The three Republican candidates vying for Abbott’s spot as Texas Attorney General have also voiced their opposition to the amendment.

Five other Texas cities already have similar non-discrimination ordinances, including Dallas and Fort Worth.
