This weekend, the centre of Doncaster is set to be the stage of the biggest gay event of the year, Doncaster Pride.

The pride event, which takes place on the 16th August is returning to the town centre and will also be free after the last three years, when the event took place at the Keepmoat Stadium. The all day event will take place in the brand new Sir Nigel Gresley Square, Waterdale, from 2PM till 10:30PM.

The pride’s theme is “Party With The Stars” and the main stage will play host to an abundance of local talent and tribute acts.

Organisers for the Pride said, ‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Keepmoat Stadium for hosting Pride for the last 3 years, but as soon as the Square was complete the Pride committee approached the Council with a view to using the space to bring Pride back into the town centre. Many have asked over the years about the move out of the market, we have always been very clear about this – Doncaster Pride can not and will not take place in the market unless the area is redeveloped and made safe for our event.’

Miss Penny, will play hostess for the event and the very first act on stage will be the Pleasure Boys – check those bad boys out! They will be doing an “appropriate” stage appearance – just in case you were wondering.

‘Pride isn’t just for the gay community, it’s about bringing people together in a friendly and happy party atmosphere’ said Pride Chair Cath Fox.

‘This year’s event really does have something for everyone and we encourage people to come and join in the best party in Doncaster all year.

‘We’re back in the town centre and Pride is FREE so we are accessible and affordable for everyone. We really hope to see a great crowd coming together to help the gay community celebrate.’
