BuzzFeed LGBT is seeking a full-time deputy editor to join our team based in New York City. This position will report to the LGBT editor and support the editor in managing the team and editing coverage that advances and develops cultural conversations about LGBT identity.

BuzzFeed LGBT aims to be the leading source for reporting on LGBT news and culture — covering news, politics, and legal developments as intensely as we focus on sharing stories that illuminate the diversity of the LGBT community, from the experiences of homeless LGBT youth to out celebrities and public figures.

Deputy LGBT Editor

We are looking for an editor with three or more years of experience with ambitious ideas and the ability to edit a diverse array of articles, personal essays and posts. It’s crucial that this editor come to BuzzFeed with developed ideas about ongoing LGBT conversations as well as inventive and insightful ways to cover the topics, public figures and varied facets of the LGBT experience.

Responsibilities:

• Edit BuzzFeed staff reporters and writers, overseeing projects from inception through publication.
• Assist with managing the workflow of the many stories we have in development at any moment.
• Generate ideas and find freelance writers who may not be on our radar.
• Contribute to and help steer the broader conversation about the LGBT experience and movement.

Requirements:

• At least three years experience editing, either online or print.
• Candidates without professional editing experience will not be considered.
• Ability to work independently and also as part of a larger team.
• Established social media presence, especially on Twitter.
• Comfort with journalists and writers of various styles and dispositions and established relationships with writers that could be brought into the fold.
