American Airlines Airplane 01 300x199 100 Companies Support ENDA, Including AMR and Texas InstrumentsWith a Senate committee vote expected on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) Wednesday, the Human Rights Campaign is working to build up some momentum a day early. Tuesday, HRC announced it now has 100 “leading companies” taking part in its Business Coalition for Workplace Fairness, and two are from North Texas: American Airlines and Texas Instruments. The coalition is a list of leading businesses that have come out publicly in support of ENDA.

“Our endorsement of ENDA is consistent with our longstanding ‘Statement of Equal Opportunity.’ The principles fostered by ENDA are consistent with our corporate principles in treating all employees with fairness and respect,” said an American Airlines news release, when it announced its support. (US Airways, which recently merged with AMR, is on the list, too, by the way.)

88 percent of Fortune 500 companies ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. However, companies are not required to ban LGBT discrimination by federal law. ENDA would prohibit discrimination in hiring and employment in the United States on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. Gay rights advocates have been fighting for ENDA since 1994, when it was first introduced in Congress.

In addition to the 100 leading companies, HRC lists about 50 small employers that support ENDA. There are four North Texas businesses on that list, too:

•    ALT Services Inc., Plano, TX
•    Masters Realtors Inc., Dallas, TX
•    Merge Media Group Gp LLC, Dallas, TX
•    Zebra Printing & Graphic Inc., Dallas, TX
