Austin Pride 2015

The PRIDE Festival is the LARGEST annual LGBTQ advocacy and fundraising event in Central Texas!  Dozens of non-profit organizations and social clubs use the Festival as a platform to inform and interact with the thousands of attendees. Each year, countless people find new organizations to join, causes to support, and opportunities to volunteer. We are also proud knowing that the Austin PRIDE Festival is Central Texas’ single largest HIV testing day of the year enabling several local HIV-related service organizations to reach populations they may otherwise not reach!

In addition, since 2011, the Austin Gay and Lesbian PRIDE Foundation (AGLPF) has also been able to donate over $75,000 of excess Festival proceeds to various non-profit organizations and causes through the Austin PRIDE Cares program.

The Festival features two Entertainment areas: the Main Stage & East Stage showcasing an amazing lineup of musical artists and pop culture icons! The Festival also includes inflatable games and activities for people of all ages, photo booths, face painting, drinks, food, and over 140 vendor booths featuring non-profits & products from local businesses that support the LGBTQ community!

The Austin Gay and Lesbian Pride Foundation (AGLPF) formed the Austin PRIDE Cares program in 2011 to further its mission to educate, resource, and connect the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community in Austin, Texas.  A component of the program includes the board evaluating its financials annually, and, if practicable, donating surplus Austin PRIDE celebration proceeds back into the community.

Since its inception, the Austin PRIDE Cares program has donated over $75,000 to various non-profit organizations and causes!  g support, these donations would not be possible!

Who We Become Building a Trans Family

(GayWebSource.com - Gay News & Press Network) - Posted by SeasonsofPride.com

My name is Adam Perez and I’m co-producing a feature documentary with my partner Jan Hendrik Hinzel entitled “who we become.” The film is about building a trans family, focusing on a makeshift family bonded by the search for community.

We are reaching out to different organizations and people to spread the word out about the film.

If you have any suggestions, or advice for us, we would love to hear it. Hendrik and I are working with the Bronx Documentary Center, but we’ve financed, produced, edited, designed everything ourselves. We recently launched an indiegogo campaign to raise funds for an editor.

We were hoping you could share this with your team and network.

Here’s a link to our campaign: http://igg.me/at/wwbfilm/x

Who We Become Building a Trans Family

Who we become is a documentary about building a trans family. The film focuses on a makeshift family bonded by the search for community. Jace, who was forced to leave his home, moved to NYC where he found refuge with a trans family and started a new life away from his rural Texas hometown. As soon as he arrived in New York, he started taking hormones for his transition from female to male. With few resources, Kim and Cris run a clinic in the Bronx that deals with trans care. They try tirelessly to create a family of transgender individuals who are isolated by friends and disowned by their families.

Within the trans community there is a debate about whether one should live openly as trans or remain stealth, meaning not disclosing you are trans. There is a strong fear in the community that being trans could mean risking one’s life. This summer alone, five trans women were murdered in the U.S. The Human Rights Campaign reported that a transgender person has a 1 in 12 chance of being murdered. And for people of color, the probability is even higher.

In times of increasing hate crimes against members of the LGBTQ community in New York, the trans community struggles to find solidarity. There is a debate within the group about the goals of the trans community, collective identity and a changing of the guard. Other factors like race and income inequality compact this tension.

Past documentaries on trans people have focused on the medical transition, drag culture and trans women. We wanted to shift the focus and illustrate how for many trans people, community means family and family is essential to their survival. We also wanted to show the struggle of navigating life as a transgender person.

We hope that our documentary can contribute to more acceptance of transgender individuals and shed a light on the violence and struggles many of them face.

Pride Houston 2014

(GayWebSource.com - Gay News & Press Network) - Posted by SeasonsofPride.com

June 20, 2014toJune 29, 2014

Pride Houston – Houston, TX

Founded in 1978, Pride Houston, Inc., is a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating the LGBT community through events and the annual Houston LGBT Pride Celebration including the nation’s first night-time Pride parade.

Pride Houston 2014Pride Houston 2014

Pride Houston has been a long time member of the International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride (InterPride) for over 30 years. InterPride is a not–for-profit organization that provides support to over 200 groups that plan Pride events around the world. Pride Houston shall work to bring lesbians, gay-men, bisexuals and transgendered individuals together to educate the world on issues pertaining to the LGBT community, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture and liberate our people.

Houston Pride Week: June 20th – 29th 2014For over 35 years, Pride Houston has worked at the heart of the local LGBT community to educate and celebrate the diversity within our city’s large population. Every year, Pride Houston works hard with national sponsors and local volunteers to organize and produce a series of events that cater to and promote Houston’s ever-growing LGBT community.

For more than 35 years, Pride Houston has been a central part of the local LGBT community in Houston.

It’s core mission is to strengthen equality and increase awareness around issues important to our community such as health, safety and marriage equality. Pride Houston celebrates the individuality and diversity of every person as we all strive for acceptance from parents, friends and society-at-large.

From annual charity events to aiding LGBT-support and -counseling networks, its activities continue to promote social awareness and enrich the diversity that helps the Houston community thrive.

Nearly a decade after the Stonewall Riots in New York, the Gay Rights Movement for equality made its way to Houston. The Celebration is typically held the last Saturday in June to commemorate Stonewall, and the parade, which is held in the evening after sunset. This tradition began in 1997, arranged by then-Houston City Councilmember Annise Parker, where a parade ordinance was revised to allow for the nation’s only nighttime Pride Parade.

Pride Houston is a registered 501(c)3 organization incorporated in the state of Texas, and is 100 percent volunteer-run. Its annual June Celebration takes more than 10,000 volunteer hours to produce, along side its other initiatives, which require more volunteers than ever.
