Building Pride through LGBT Business

Every day, we here stories of businesses that refuse to sell to the LGBT community claiming it somehow violates their Religious Freedom. And we think that is a good thing.  Why? Because, I want to know if I am spending my hard earned dollars in a business that discriminates against against my community. I appreciate them telling me they oppose marriage equality or gender equality – because I can go spend my money someplace that supports equal rights.

LGBT owned independent businesses return a percentage of each dollar you spend back to our community. For example, bear businesses put that dollar back into the community through bear runs, bear media, and contributions to local non-profit organizations and political organizations.

We believe the best path to equality is financial empowerment.

Seasons of Pride supports diversity in the workplace through free LGBT jobs listings, and free directories for gay and lesbian businesses and a LGBT Freelancers  for the Queer Community.

(GayWebSource.com – Gay News & Press Network) – Posted by SeasonsofPride.com

August 8, 2015 to August 9, 2015

Northalsted Market Days – The 34th Annual Northhalsted Market Days® is coming to you live! A crowd from across the country will come together to celebrate the largest two-day street festival in the Midwest, right here on Halsted Street. Chicago, IL.

Northalsted Market Days 2015

Northalsted Market Days 2015

Northalsted (also known as “Boystown”) was voted the 2013 “the best gay neighborhood in the world” by Out traveler Magazine. And it’s easy to see why: our collection of fabulous shops, fantastic restaurants, famous nightlife, and our proud LGBTQ legacy gives us a sense of community spirit unlike any other place.

The Midwest’s largest two-day street fair features Boystown’s best food, bars, boutiques and musical entertainment, attracting crowds worldwide to Chicago.

Northalsted Market Days annually showcases some of the best food, arts and crafts, and live music Chicago has to offer! Spanning 6 city blocks with more than 400 vendors and 3 music stages, thousands from around the country flock to this unique event–which happens to be the largest street event in the Midwest!

Northalsted Market Days take place on N. Halsted between Belmont and Addison.

About the Northalsted Business Alliance

The Northalsted Business Alliance works cooperatively to maintain a diverse, safe and thriving shopping and entertainment district. In 1980, a small group of retailers in a four-block area along Halsted Street joined forces to promote the street and improve business conditions.

Since its inception, the Northalsted Business Alliance has grown to represent more than 80 businesses along North Halsted Street from Barry Street to West Irving Park Road. The Association has been recognized by the media, the City of Chicago and local residents as a major force in the community, championing positive change and growth.

Northalsted Events

The Northalsted Business Alliance hosts two of the city’s most popular events—Chicago Pride Fest® and Northalsted Market Days®—which bring thousands of people to our neighborhood. The Northalsted Business Alliance-sponsored Halloween on Halsted parade also invite the community to gather and experience Northalsted.

Chicago Pride 2015

(GayWebSource.com – Gay News & Press Network) – Posted by SeasonsofPride.com

June 20, 2015 to June 21, 2015
June 28, 2015

Chicago Pride – 46th Annual Chicago Pride Parade & Pride Weekend. Chicago Pride Weekend consists of a two-day festival and our world-famous parade – The two-day festival takes place along Chicago’s famed Halsted strip on June 20-21. The parade takes place over a four-mile route on Sunday, June 28. Chicago, IL.

Chicago Pride 2015

Chicago Pride 2015

The parade kicks off at noon on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Montrose Avenue and Broadway in Uptown and ends near the intersection of Diversey Parkway and Sheridan Road in Lincoln Park. Pride Month in June is the culmination of Chicago’s vibrant LGBT community. The energy in the city peaks on Pride Weekend, which falls on the last weekend of June each year in commemoration of the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. On Pride Frida and Saturday thousands will gather along Halsted for the two day festival. Stages of music, exhibitors, great food and drinks are available to enjoy. In the evening the revelers will pour into Boystown clubs and party into the wee hours of the night.

On Sunday the roar of the crowd heralds the start of the Pride Parade, a dazzling cavalcade of diversity. The streets are lined 12 people deep as 750,000 people cheer the contingents on and enjoy the show, culture and experience! For the liveliest viewing spots head to the Boystown section of North Halsted Street, between Belmont Avenue and Grace Street. If you are seeking a less crowded area to view the parade, look for your viewing spots near the beginning of the route along Broadway between Montrose Avenue and Sheridan Road or further along Broadway between Belmont Avenue and Diversey Parkway.

When is Chicago Pride?
The Chicago Pride two-day Celebration takes place the weekend before the parade. And the Parade historically takes place during the final weekend in June of each year.

How did Pride begin?
The annual Pride Celebration commemorates the rebellion of LGBT patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City’s Greenwich Village in response to a routine police raid on June 27, 1969. The following year, a “Gay-In” that took place on June 27, 1970 that was the early progenitor of the current Pride Celebration. Since 1972, the event has been held every year, Since its modest beginnings, Chicago Pride has grown to be one the largest and most well-known Pride events in the world. Pride has come to symbolize several things: the long history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer dignity, the freedom of all people to meaningfully and proudly express their sexual and gender identities, and the commitment of LGBT people to combating oppression.

I dare you to look for Gilligan and the Skipper now that you have read that description.
