Pride WA Fairday  – Stalls and community entertainment, including the much-loved dog show. Feb 7, 2016

The award-winning FAIRDAY returns to Hyde Park as a part of FRINGEWORLD in 2016.

Staged again in the picturesque Hyde Park, right in the heart of the City of Vincent, FAIRDAY will again be our community’s favourite day of the year.

Featuring live entertainment, heaps of great stalls, delicious food options, a play area for the kiddies and our much loved dog show, FAIRDAY will be an event you just won’t want to end.

Bring your own picnic lunch, or pre-order a gourmet hamper.  Alcohol will not be on sale, but you can BYO if you drink responsibly.

Pride FAIRDAY is again set to be a highlight of the upcoming FRINGE WORLD festival, with more than 4,000 patrons expected to make the event one of the festival’s best attended.

FAIRDAY was a joint winner of the award for best community event at the 2014 FRINGE WORLD festival.

For more than 20 years, Pride FAIRDAY has been one of Western Australia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer community’s favourite days of the year.  The event features live performances, pop-up entertainment and loads of arts, culture and community stalls, set in the beautiful Hyde Park environment.

Pride WA President Andrew Barker said a feature of this year’s event would be a renewed focus on the quality of entertainment.

“FAIRDAY will feature something for everybody and there will never be a dull moment,” he said.

“This year, we are focusing on putting a little more ‘camp’ into the entertainment, as well as having less talk and more music on stage.

While yet to be fully finalised, this year’s FAIRDAY line-up includes Yully, Nat Ripepi, Brass Monkey, Voodoo Lounge, Cougar Morrison, the Perth Drag Queens, the Connections Queens and DJ Roski.

FAIRDAY will again feature the popular dog show, but this year’s event will have fewer categories, and will be a shorter, sharper segment.

Pride Senior Vice President Michelle Rogers said the event would be an event for people of all ages and backgrounds.

“One of the things people love about FAIRDAY is that it is an inclusive event, where everybody feels comfortable,” she said.

“A key part of this is being a family friendly event.  This year, we will have a giant treasure chest with activities for kids inside, with a highlight being face painting with the fairies.

“We are also changing the layout this year, to better integrate stalls with the rest of the event, so that everyone can enjoy the entertainment and atmosphere.

Pride FAIRDAY will be staged on Sunday 7th February in Hyde Park from 11am to 6pm.  Entry is $5 general admission and free for Pride WA members and children under 16.  Patrons may join Pride WA at the gate on the day and receive free entry.  Annual membership costs $20 for concession card holders and $30 for everybody else.

Pride Western Australia

Pride Western Australia Incorporated (Pride WA) is Western Australia’s largest community group, representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex community.

Originally incorporated in 1993 as Lesbian & Gay Pride (WA) Incorporated, Pride WA has its roots in the 1989 march on Parliament, during the contentious debate about the decriminalisation of sex between consenting men in WA.

Since then, Pride WA has grown to stage our community’s largest and favourite events and played an important role in campaigning for gay and lesbian law reform, which saw all State-based discriminatory laws abolished in 2002.

Pride WA has a rich history and we will be publishing a history section on our website soon.

We are run by a volunteer Committee, and we will also soon be publishing a Committee page, so you can get to know the team.
