NURSE MANAGER AIDS Hospice & Respite CareWe started our work in 1987 in response to the AIS crisis and for the last 27 years have provided 24-hour nursing care in a warm, home-like, 15-bedroom setting for more than 1,000 of the most vulnerable members of our community with advanced AIDS. We have spent the last couple of years diligently looking at how best to carry out our mission for the next 27 years, in light of the changing nature of the epidemic. To that end, we have taken our previous Nursing Services Director position and split it into 2 Senior Leadership positions, both reporting directly to our Executive Director: Nurse Manager and Nurse Care Coordinator.

In our Nurse Manager position we are looking for a proven leader who can demonstrate solid clinical skills combined with a track record as a team player and problem solver, with energy and zeal to lead the clinical staff in our unique setting.

Requirements:

  • Current CA Registered Nurse Licensure
  • Managed at least 15 people at a senior level for 3 years+ within the past 6 years

Responsibilities:

  • including RNs, LVNs and CNAs, ensuring compliance with scope of practice for each discipline

JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Nurse Manager
Status: Exempt
Reports To: Executive Director

Salary Range: Minimum: $80,535 Median: $96,346 Maximum: $109,774

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position is primarily responsible for the management and supervision of a multidisciplinary professional and paraprofessional nursing staff providing 24 hour clinical care for up to seventeen patients living in an HIV/AIDS residential care facility. This position is also responsible for establishing nursing policy and nursing budgetary management.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

MANAGEMENT

Actively participates as a nursing leader of the Maitri management team.

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

  • Provides direct supervision to Nursing Department staff, LVNs, CNAs, and per diem nursing staff, ensuring compliance with scope of practice for each discipline.
  • Provides annual written evaluations and, as needed, direction and feedback.
  • Provides ongoing education to residents and staff regarding medication regimen.
  • Provides supervision and training to the direct care staff regarding the clinical needs and physical care of residents.
  • Coordinates both mandatory and optional staff trainings, with the support of Maitri’s Facilities & Administration Manager to schedule the sessions, track attendance and document in personnel files, as appropriate.
  • Incorporates Quality Management activities and outcomes into the clinical care process.
  • Oversees Maitri nurse scheduling in collaboration with the scheduling platform administrator.
  • Recruitment and hiring of new nursing staff, as needed, including per diems.

BUDGET

  • Work with Executive Director to develop a Nursing Department budget by March 31 of each year for the subsequent fiscal year that meets the projected financial resources of the organization.
  • Work with the Executive Director to monitor monthly variances against the nursing budget and adjust spending and/or budget as necessary to ensure that expenditures do not exceed Maitri’s financial resources.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

  • In collaboration with the Maitri management team, and as part of the Maitri Quality Management Plan, develops quality indicators specific to clinical care. Directs/performs these activities and data collection to identify trends and barriers. Provides written response to outcomes, including plan as appropriate.
  • Leverage Computer Informatics and other efficiency tools for improved resident care and administrative workflows.
  • Provides information that enables the collection and root cause analysis of data to identify barriers to care and opportunities for improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Responsible for compliance with Residential Care Facility for Chronically Ill/AIDS (RCFCI) regulations through the California Department of Social Services, as well as State Department of Industrial Relation, Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Blood borne Pathogens Standard.

POLICY

  • In coordination with Maitri management team, develops and revises policies and procedures specifically related to clinical care.
  • As a member of the Maitri management team, participates in the oversight of and policy decision-making for Maitri.

PATIENT CARE

CLINICAL CARE-Secondary duty to support the (RN) Nurse Care Coordinator

  • Provides support to LVNs in addressing urgent care issues and medical management.
  • Manages acute minor medical conditions.
  • Triages major medical conditions for appropriate care.
  • Perform other duties within nursing scope of practice as needed to reasonably assure quality care for Facility’s residents.

EDUCATION

  • Works in collaboration with other Maitri staff to develop ongoing resident education.

COLLABORATION

NURSE CARE COORDINATOR COLLABORATION

  • Works in collaboration with the Nurse Care Coordinator for the daily operations at Maitri.
  • Fills in for Nurse Care Coordinator duties to provide coverage during vacation, illnesses or other absences.

SCHEDULE:

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, occasionally including weekends, dependent upon the needs of Maitri.
  • Ability to be on call as needed for phone consultation dependent upon the needs of Maitri in nursing crisis situation.

EDUCATION:

  • Masters degree in Nursing preferred. Baccalaureate degree in nursing required.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care preferred.
  • Registered Nurse with current CA licensure required
    REQUIERD QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated track record of management-level responsibilities including: budget development and management; staff supervision; organizational development.
  • Ability to work with a team as well as independently.
  • Excellent documentation and clinical skills, ability to set priorities, work independently, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds, including non-nursing staff and community providers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and flexibility to adapt to new information technology needs.
  • Experience working with LGBT clients.
  • Experience working with clients with chronically illness, HIV, and substance use issues.
  • Knowledge of HIV medications, mental health interventions, and harm reduction interventions.
  • Knowledge of routine primary care, urgent care and referral as needed for specialty medical care.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working as a registered nurse in acute hospital and/or Home Health/Hospice agency.
  • Minimum one year experience in a supervisory role.
  • Minimum two years working with individuals with HIV/AIDS; including those with co-morbidity of mental illness/substance use.
  • Current and broad knowledge of issues and trends that will affect the future of Hospice care practices.
