<p></p><p></p><p>The Material Girl singer, 55, has upset many gay fans after she called Kale gay in a word association game for Buzzfeed.</p><p></p><p>She also used the word to describe the Russian President Vladimir Putin <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/madonnas-opinion-on-completely-random-things">during the game</a>. </p><p></p><p>Many fans were quick to pick up on Madonna's use of the word in a negative context.</p><p></p><p>One user said: 'Really Madge, ‘gay’? Cos its totes appropriate to use it as a slur. *holds sarcasm sign*' Whilst another said:</p><p></p><p>'Finally, photos where she seems to be accepting that she’s in her 50’s rather than her 20’s. Much classier. Only complaint: calling kale ‘gay’. Is that supposed to mean it’s bad or saying that only homosexuals enjoy it…? I can get behind her calling Putin gay, he’s so vehemently anti-gay that it would make sense.'</p><p></p><p>Madonna has long been recognised for her gay rights advocacy, but this isn't the first time she caused upset amongst fans for offensive language.</p><p></p><p>Earlier this year the singer appologised after using a racial slur on Instagram to caption a picture of herself and son Rocco. </p><p></p><p>'I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N-word on Instagram," she said. "It was not meant as a racial slur ... The Material Girl singer, 55, has upset many gay fans after she called Kale gay in a word association game for Buzzfeed.
She also used the word to describe the Russian President Vladimir Putin during the game.
