10.45am (1hr)

Bent

Modern theatre classic about love and persecution in Nazi Germany

Max is gay and sent to Dachau concentration camp. He denies he is gay and gets the Jews’ yellow label instead of the pink triangle. In camp he falls in love with his fellow prisoner Horst, who wears his pink triangle with pride.

With one of the most thought-provoking endings in theatre history, the subject matter is highly charged and controversial. In its subtle characterisation and powerful analysis of human dignity under extreme duress, Bent is a truthful and shattering story of love enduring the persecution of homosexuals in 1934 Nazi Germany. An undeniably powerful post-war theatre classic, it transcends the boundaries of its ostensible theme.
